History and description
Tol-e Mohammad Sālehi is located in the eastern part of Dasht-e Rostam, 1.5 km northeast of the village of Dozak. The site is a rectangular, flat-top mound measuring 55 x 18 m with a height of 1-2 m above the surrounding area. There is considerable surface stone and fired brick debris, and traces of rectangular structures such as wall foundations are visible. Based on the surface pottery and type of masonry, it seems that Tol-e Mohammad Sālehi was a Sasanian/Islamic watch post or fort. Located in the middle of agricultural lands, the mound has been largely destroyed by farming activities.
Archaeological Exploration
In 2005, a joint team of archaeologists from Sydney University and the Iranian Center for Archaeological Research led by Dan Potts and Kourosh Roustaei visited the mound and recorded all the visible remains.
