History and description
Two groups of tombs were excavated at Nesfi. Based on the ceramic and metals finds, the first group’s tombs range from the Iron Age to the Achaemenid period. The second group seems to be later in date, possibly Parthian. The first group's tombs were apparently simple pit graves while the tombs of the second group were roughly built with stones and boulders.
Archaeological Exploration
The graveyard at Nesfi was excavated by Ali Hakemi on behalf of the Iranian Archaeological Department in the summer of 1964.
Finds
A large of finds were excavated from tombs at Nesfi.
Pottery: They fall into three groups. Typical Gray Ware of the Iron Age II/III period with no to little surface decoration; carinated bowls and plates similar to those produced in the Achaemenid period; Parthian ceramics follow the Iron Age types in terms of shapes and color but they are inferior in quality and firing.
Metals: Daggers, spearheads, and arrowheads in bronze or iron; beads, personal ornaments, bracelets, earrings in bronze and occasionally in silver; beads in bone or stone, stone pestles.
