History and description
Do Talūn consist of two low natural hillocks situated above the left bank of the Pulvār River, approximately 2 km south of the Tomb of Cyrus. Do Talūn A is 20 m high and smaller than Do Talūn B. the surface of Do Talūn A is covered with painted potsherds that resemble those of the Bakūn period. On the larger Do Talūn B mound, there are plenty of fragments of glazed ware of the tenth century A.D.
Archaeological Exploration
Sir Aurel Stein sounded Dol Talūn A in May 1934. He uncovered a series of mud-brick walls and burials. Most of the painted pottery sherds come from the grave goods. He published a schematic plan of the excavated remains and pictures of the painted potsherds (see bibliography).
