History and description
Tol-e Bōrj is in the vicinity of the village of Deh No, in the central, northern part of Dasht-e Rostam. The site is a high, steep-sided mound, the edges of which are eroded and cut due to framing activities. On the west side, there are traces of stone walls, some of which are made of large blocks. Based on the surface pottery, Tol-e Bōrj has a sequence from the Bākūn period to the late Sasanian/Islamic period.
Archaeological Exploration
Tol-e Bōrj was first recorded by Sir Aurel Stein in 1935. In 2005, a joint team of archaeologists from Sydney University and the Iranian Center for Archaeological Research led by Dan Potts and Kourosh Roustaei re-visited the mound and recorded all the visible remains.
