Location: Location: Tepe Pir-e Gāvgol is located east of the present village of Gāvgol, halfway between Hamadan and Zanjan, in central northwestern Iran, the Zanjan Province.

History and description

Tepe Pir-e Gāvgol is a conical, steep-sided mound with a height of 15 m. Based on the surfaced pottery, the mound was first occupied in the first millennium B.C. Typical gray ware of western Iran (EWGW). Then, there are impressed potsherds of the 12th century A.D.

Archaeological Exploration

The mound was visted by David Stronach and Cuyler Young in their 1965 survey of the region. No report has been published.
